Hey guys,
I apologize for my short absence, but I'm back because midterms are coming to a close! I still have one more, so I'm going to hit you with a simple post today: a good old WIAW (What I Ate Wednesday) & some tid bits about what's going on in my life lately.
~ What I Ate Wednesday (WIAW) ~
Then today while reading a WIAW by Julia @ lordstilllovesme I changed my mind. She prefaced her WIAW with the phrases: "No comparisons. No restriction. No judgment." I think that's brilliant, so I'm extending the same advice to my readers. WIAW is about getting inspired to try combos or buy foods that you may normally wouldn't. It can even be about motivating yourself to eat more, but it should never be a trigger to eat less.
Without further ado let's have it!

Around 6:15 A.M. (the time I leave for school) I had a mug of coffee mixed with about 2 tbsp of Coffee Bean's Special Dutch Chocolate powder & whole milk. I normally don't work out on an empty stomach, or just coffee, but when I'm stepping into my university's gym before 7 A.M. I find that eating before upsets my stomach. After finishing my workout, showering, and getting ready, I made my way to my school's North campus cafeteria for breakfast and some blog reading before my 9 A.M. class. I recently discovered these humongous breakfast bowls for only $3.50 and I'm hooked. It's got to be at least four eggs mixed with my spinach, cheese, sausage, bell peppers, and onions with a giant scoop of hash browns on top. |
When the clock hit 12:00 and I was through with my first two classes, I wasn't quite hungry for lunch yet. This is pretty unusual for me; I generally have some fruit or an applesauce pouch in class and then am ready for lunch as soon as I'm done, but not today. I helped myself to a second coffee (I was dragging a bit), did some studying, and waited for some hunger to set in before eating my lunch. I'm a HUGE believer in Intuitive Eating, so I maintain that just as you should always eat when you're hungry, you shouldn't force yourself when you aren't (side note: this does not apply to everyone currently in the process of becoming weight restored or re-learning hunger cues). |
Sure enough, shortly after I finished my coffee, hunger came knocking at my belly. I pulled out my tupperware which was overflowing with rice and chicken. Usually I like to pack a sandwich, on my favorite gluten free bread, but I was out of deli meat. Not wanting to spend money in the dining hall, I improvised at home by combining a pack of 3 minute rice (the Asian accents flavor) and a can of Kirkland's chicken breast. It was a lot more delicious than I expected and I enjoyed it very much. |
As I was sitting in my last class of the day, about 4 P.M. I felt like another snack, so I ate half of the peanut butter sandwich I had packed. I'm sure it looks funny when I roll up to school with a giant bag of food, but I'm there from 7 - 5 and I don't like to get caught hangry OR spend buckets at the dining options. A small Jamba Juice is like $6...what the heck is that?! |
As I made my long commute home, I was feeling more exhausted than usual. I had to stop at the market to get food for my fur baby, so I decided to pick up dinner for myself as well. I was in no mood to cook. I grabbed a chicken ceasar salad wrap because money's been pretty tight lately and it was on sale for $3.99. Not worth it. I took the wrap off because it wasn't gluten-free and attempted to eat the salad with some buttered toast and coconut water, but I could barely eat half - and that's saying something cause I'm not picky. |
I was hoping dessert would make up for my lackluster dinner. I had found cookie dough dairy free ice cream on sale as well, and was eager to dive in. I scooped myself a generous bowl, and at first was really loving the texture and flavor. The cookie dough was a little softer than chunky, but I didn't mind. However about halfway through my bowl I started to get turned off by the sharp sweetness; the more I ate the more artificial it tasted. I finished my bowl and did not go for seconds. I probably will not buy it again, but I'm glad I tried it. And there's no such thing as wasted calories so it's all good :) |
~What's Goin' On With Me~
Considering that it's my 1st quarter at UCLA, and on the quarter system, I feel pretty good about my level of preparedness. I had my midterm on Iberian Cultures this morning and I'm feeling confident about everything but the darn matching section. I have my Freedom of Speech and Press midterm in a couple hours. Wish me luck!
Laptop Swimming
This marks the second fairly new Macbook that I've drowned and dreaded paying to replace. I'm very responsible about taking care of pretty much everything else in my life, but I have s*** luck with laptops. If you'll recall I had my last one stolen from my hotel room on my last night in Panama.
Getting to Know my Little Brother
Since starting UCLA, I've been spending school night's at my dad's house. In the past few years I've spent most of my time at my mom's. My little brother, who lives at dads pretty much full time, is almost nine years old and is developing such a quirky sense of humor. He's becoming an awesome person and I'm loving spending time with him.
Blogilates
In addition to starting Strong Lifts 5x5 recently, which I gave a quick recap on last week, I've been re-incorporating Blogilates videos into my workouts. I used to consider myself a master POP Pilates fiend. I've done every video Cassey has posted and I used to do them back to back without stopping. Now I struggle to get through some that used to be easy for me! I want to get back on my pilates groove not only to get my ability back, but because Cassey's optimism and positivity always put me in a great mood
Do you enjoy reading WIAW? What's goin on recaps?
Happy to do more :)
Have a great day!
